Shillong is a highly favorite travel destination for countless people all over the globe. It is not merely a hill station but in fact is the capital of Mehgalaya. Rising and falling hills characterize Shillong. The hill station is set in the exotic and nice location of East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. What really attracts the tourists from different parts of the world to this hill station is the pollution free and clean environment of Shillong. Compared to the other cities and towns of tropical India Shillong has a much milder climate. At one point of time Shillong used to be the capital of Assam. Later on it came to be known as the capital of Meghalaya which was a newly formed state.

Wards lake, Son Bosco Museum of Indigenous North East culture, Shillong peak( the highest point in entire Meghalaya), Nongpoh, butterfly museum, golf courses, the famous Shillong golf club, Sweet Falls, elephant falls, Lady Hydari park, the Bara Bazar etc. these places are perfect if you would like have an adventurous outdoor activity.
Festivals:
Shillong is an abode of festivals and fairs. Once you come in close contact with the life style of Shillong you will be able to have a crystal clear view of the various festivities. To refer to some of them- chambil mesara (also known as pomelo dance), shad sik mynsiem ( or a specific form of a thanks gibing dance), nongkrem dance, wangala, doregata dance festival etc. these festivals are not only colorful they carry the impression of the age old traditions which are still important to the people of Shillong. These festivals become alive because of the colorful garments and the high spirit of the people participating in it. Some of these festivals are celebrated in order to offer reference to the deities so that all can live in peace in harmony with the heavenly blessings.
Food:
You can enjoy some specific delicacies such as - Vegetarian preparations, Jaintia thali ( which is a local preparation and a great favorite with the tourists), traditional tribal dishes, even pasta, pizza, sandwiches etc.
